Sick and tired of mass murder in America?
The USA has suffered 213 mass shootings since January 2022.
Animals don’t commit mass murder.
Sick human beings do.
I say “sick” because why else does someone murder children?
Salvador Ramos shot his grandmother before murdering 21 at Robb Elementary School.
Just days earlier, ten were shot dead in a racially motivated attack at a Buffalo, NY supermarket.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, mass shootings in the USA totaled . . .
- 693 in 2021
- 611 in 2020
- 417 in 2019
Why does God allow something like this?
Evil is a consequence of free choices
The only way to explain mass murder is to recognize that man without God is captive to his nature.
- He can turn into a beast
- He can turn into a devil
Salvador Ramos did.
I hate to see him when he answers to God.
Now do you doubt the rationale for . . .
- capital punishment?
- hell?
Look at what Jesus said happens to people who hinder children in the smallest way.
“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.” Mark 9:42
So why doesn’t God destroy evil now?
Because he would destroy free-will.
And free-will is necessary for a moral universe.
It’s not possible to force people to freely choose goodness.
Mankind is in God’s power
God is in control even with evil swaying our world.
“When I select an appointed time, it is I who judge with equity. When the earth shakes and all its inhabitants; I keep its pillars firm.” Psalm 75: 2-3
- Pillars is a metaphor that God made us and the earth strong.
- Pillars also remind us that the world still “shakes.”
God, who is sovereign over time, brings justice and relief even after tragedies.
He doesn’t judge according to man’s impatience, but at the exact time He chooses.
In the end, wickedness will be judged.
“All the horns of the wicked He will cut off, but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.” Psalm 75:10
Wage war on evil with righteousness
Why not counter evil today by seeking God and his strength?
“The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.” Psalm 29:11
And the very person this killer’s actions mocked said . . .
“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
One researcher has said that in the last 4,000 years, there have been less than 300 years of peace on earth.
We cannot create peace by ourselves. We receive it from God. How?
- Accept His love
- Model his love
- Obey His laws
And then go change the world.
What are your thoughts on solving evil?
Well written, Steve. Thanks for sharing this with all of us during this tragic time.
Great to hear from you Stacey. Thanks for your comment!
Really enjoyed reading your post Steve. I have been struggling with this topic through the past few weeks and it’s nice to hear some soothing words.
Mass murder is the ugliest scar on earth isn’t it? Thanks for engaging Cheryl.
Great blog!
Thank you Scott!
