Coldplay just rocked Dallas performing their ecstatic hit, Higher Power.
Three fresh reminders of higher power await your calling.
1. Music is an avenue for higher power
When I first heard Coldplay perform “Higher Power,” I jumped up and danced.
Here’s a peek at the song performed in Dallas just weeks ago.
Higher Power lyrics Sometimes I just can't take it Sometimes I just can't take it and it isn't alright I'm not going to make it And I think my shoe's untied (oh oh) I'm like a broken record I'm like a broken record and I'm not playing right Drocer nekorb a ekil mi 'Til you tell me on a heavenly phone to Hold tight (hold tight) Come on (come on) Come on (come on) Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh Come on (come on) Come on (come on) Yeah, don't let go Hold tight (hold tight) Hold tight (hold tight) Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh "It's alright, it's alright" she said I got my hands up shaking just to let you know That you've got a higher power Got me singing every second, dancing every hour Oh yeah, you've got a higher power And you're really someone I wanna know (oh oh) This boy is electric This boy is electric and you're sparkling light The universe connected And I'm buzzing night after night after night (oh oh) This joy is electric This joy is electric and you're circuiting through I'm so happy that I'm alive Happy I'm alive at the same time as you 'Cause you've got a higher power Got me singing every second, dancing every hour Oh yeah, you've got a higher power And you're really someone I wanna know (I wanna know, oh oh) You've got, yeah, you've got a higher You've got, yeah, you've got a higher You've got, yeah, you've got a higher You've got Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh You've got, oh, you've got a higher You've got, yeah, you've got a higher You've got, oh, you've got a higher My hands up shaking just to let you know now You've got a higher power You've got me singing every second, dancing any hour Oh yeah, you've got a higher power You're once in any lifetime I'm going a million miles an hour When for so long I'd been down on my knees Then your love song saved me over and over For so long I'd been down on my knees 'Til your love song floats me on, ee-on, oh oh
Whatever you believe, there’s no doubt that higher power can be sensed through a . . .
- sunset
- moonrise
- thunderstorm
. . . and yes, a song.
2. Prayer is a highway to the higher power
The formula to higher power in the song is . . .
- recognize brokenness (like a broken record)
- hold tight because . . .
- heavenly phone says It’s alright
- Why? You’ve got a higher power
- How? Your love song saved me
Makes me think of another famous rock group with a song about higher power.
U2 closed many concerts with their song, 40, taken straight from . . .
Psalm 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.
When you feel like a broken record and your shoes are untied, pray to God.
Approach him in faith, wait patiently, and see what happens.
3. Love lights the path
Coldplay’s song celebrates a fantastic Person whose love song floats me on.
Who loves like this?
- Sacrificial
- Hopeful
- Forgiving
I know of no better example than this . . .
“So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.” Luke 15: 20-23
Let’s love our family, friends, and neighbors the way God loves us.
Then, we find a higher power, don’t you think?
I love this! Thank you for pointing it out.
I play this for the kids whenever I serve as a boat captain for the foster and special needs kids at the Christian water sports camp, https://bit.ly/SkiinWithTheGalilean.
Loved this! I didn’t know that about U2.
Pretty neat Gail. Bono loves to connect with folks spiritually as evidenced by “40”.
