Great wealth is missed by those who don’t see the invisible.
And to see the invisible you must have faith and imagination.
Grace Coddington shows us how even when things go wrong.
“Always keep your eyes open. Keep watching. Because whatever you see can inspire you.” Grace Coddington
At 17, Grace won a Vogue model competition and launched her modeling career.
But, a nasty car accident, at 26, left her with massive head injuries and no eyelid.
Modeling career over.
Path to wealth and abundance not over.
Not for Grace for two reasons.
- She ignored her emotions to compare herself to other models.
- Instead, she focused on using her gifts in a new venue.
Folks who build wealth from their talent are able to . . .
- remove emotion from their losses.
- refocus emotion on their unique ability.
Great wealth in faith and imagination
Grace Coddington reinvented herself quickly. In the following two decades she was Photo Editor for British Vogue Magazine. Then, she was named Creative Director at American Vogue, a position she held for nearly thirty years.
Grace Coddington’s face was disfigured.
But, her faith and imagination were not.
Her ability to see the invisible sharpened.
Working away is not the key to wealth.
Imagination is.
“I never made one of my discoveries through the process of rational thinking.” Albert Einstein
Work ethic is a style.
Imagination is the spark.
You need both.
“Seeing a career or an investment to it’s fruition as a valuable payoff requires a willingness to embrace creativity. Imagine ideas flowing your way like rays of sunlight. Seize them for your future.” Steve Blaising
I think this is tremendously exciting and the best way to face the future under any circumstance.
Great wealth in the “happy accident”
Circumstances are uncontrollable, but the chances of uncovering an unseen idea of great reward increase by searching for what my mother-in-law, Trudy Williamson, calls “happy accidents”.
Trudy’s creativity is driven by a passion to explore.
And she is curious. A nonconformist.
Trudy is willing to make the next stroke and there, she finds treasure.
Great wealth behind uncertainty
Treasure hunters embrace the beauty of uncertainty because they know the hunt shines light on the next idea that leads to the way that opens the door.
“Openness to experience is more highly correlated to creative output than I.Q. This openness often yields a drive for exploration, which ‘may be the single most important personal factor predicting creative achievement.’” Christie Aschwanden
Wealth creators know there is a balance between imagination and execution.
A discipline of imagination and a discipline of execution.
Yes, Grace Coddington’s face was disfigured but not her imagination for the creation of large, complex and dramatic photoshoots.
In July 2011, she received a reported $1.2 million book deal from publisher Random House for writing her autobiography.
She didn’t imagine this forty years ago after her auto accident.
But, Grace stayed curious amid tragedy.
She explores as she lives and she lives as she explores.
She masters the ups and downs of every moment squeezing every drop of glamour, feeling and inspiration out of relationships, work and play.
Grace Coddington and Trudy Williamson are two women lighting our way.
What’s your favorite maxim about creativity and success?
Good stuff Mr. Blaising. I’d like to add: Faith. Faith gives us the emotional ‘gas’ to continue looking, searching. Discipline gives us the car. Imagination tells us which road to take.
Thank you Stephan. Being comfortable with unseen possibilities is hard for many. Faith, discipline and imagination. A great three point sermon.
Good perspective! Very inspiring!
Thanks!
Dan, thanks for your encouraging word!
Steve, you are an inspiring guy. I so much agree with having to have an abundance of imagination. Where would our world be without it? Everybody dies but not everybody lives…
And Mark you are inspiring to share that great thought from William Wallace.
Inspiring words for all of us.
Thank you Janice. Grace and Trudy define the meaning of capturing wealth.
