Today is the beginning of your pain-free nerves.
All your brain messengers need is a whole lotta love.
In February of 2019, I ran into a burning dumpster of nerve pain called neuropathy.
My pain level was a 10 but I was able to bring it below 1 in twelve months.
Would have happened sooner if I knew then what I know now.
Add these simple pain-free habits every day and watch your nerves calm down like a quiet lagoon.
Pain-free habit #1: Infrared therapy
Functional medicine doctors agree that the key to permanent healing is circulation.
Bring circulation to the source of pain and watch the healing begin.
Peripheral nerves outside the brain and spinal cord are damaged through the years by . . .
- infections
- toxins
- medications
That’s when all the numbness, tingling and burning begins.
Clearing infections like old root canals and toxins like metals from old amalgams expedites healing.
Buy infrared pads like the ones at HealthLight and treat your starved nerves to circulation every day.
Pain-free habit #2: Low-carb
Believe it or not, the worst thing for nerves is carbs. Nerves hate carbs.
Don’t ask me why. Ask them!
If yours are just fine while inhaling IHOP chocolate-chip pancakes, just wait till you hit your 60s.
Your nerves are waiting to pay you back.
Doesn’t matter if it’s . . .
- pancakes or waffles
- flour tortillas
- sandwich bread
- hamburger buns
- biscuits
- rolls
- chips
Carbs are fuel for nerve pain.
Pivot to a low-carb lifestyle and you’ll lay a foundation for a painless life.
Pain-free habit #3: No added-sugar
Nerves hate “added sugar” even more than gluten.
I didn’t say all sugar, just “added sugar.”
If someone warned me in my 30s that my daily intake of 12 grams of sugar in every glass of milk was going to electrocute my body nonstop in my 60s, I would have laughed in their face.
But, when my electrocution began on February 25, 2019, that was my last drop of “added-sugar.”
I say “last” but not really.
I’m aware of what I’m eating and make exceptions for 1-2 grams of added sugar in foods.
When you find the switch that stops electrocution, you leave it off!
Pain-free habit #4: Drug-free
Months after I reduced carbs and cut added sugar, my nerve pain dropped from 10 to 3.
But 3 is not 1 or 0!
I was suspicious of my statin medication.
So, I chunked the Crestor tabs in the toilet.
Within six weeks, nerve pain dropped to 1.
By the way, blood pressure medication is a big no-no for nerves.
Ask your doctor about a safe alternative like neo40.
My blood pressure went from 145/80 to 120/80 after one day on neo40.
Circulation is the elephant in the room for healthy nerves.
Pain-free habit #5: Care-free
“Stress is one of the biggest contributors to nerve pain,” says my coach, Dr. Chris Buckley, at Bao Thai’s Advanced Nerve and Health Center.
Whatever is causing your nerve pain, lower it with prayer and meditation.
The reward is clear thinking for your best treatment plan.
- Start eating the right diet to relieve inflammation and improve proper function throughout the body.
- Start exercising to improve blood flow so the nutrients your nerves need are getting to the areas they’re needed.
- Take supplements daily especially alpha lipoic acid (900mg), vitamins D (250 MCG in liquid form), B12, B6, B2 and CO-Q10.
- Find a functional medicine doctor like Bao Thai or Jerry Tennant.
When you’re doing all four every day, your nerves will heal.
What’s your biggest question about nerve pain?
Thank you Steve. I’m gluten, sugar, dairy and grain free- makes a huge difference to ibs. Have neuropathy, sjogrens, raynards, thunderclap migraines, so lots of diet changes Ive had to make. Made a big difference.
Rather do it natural way.
Potato, dairy, night shade veggies are inflammatory foods.
Had better cut down on carbs
God bless

Good advice Christine. Many folks suffer more by not making these healthy and soothing changes.
You’re a breath of fresh air Steve! God bless!
Thank you Jim, my thoughts and prayers are with you for consistent improvement and permanent healing!
Yes, I agree somewhat. This is only my opinion. No sugar definately. Only some fruits natural sugar is good, many other fruits including tropical fruits are full of bad sugar. Low carb diet. I feel some carbs are necessary. It can be difficult finding gluten free foods that taste good, but I keep searching. Avoid alcohol. Excersise is good, of course. One of the best exercises for Neuropathy is swimming. I love it. All of these have helped my pain level tremendously. It takes time, dedication and will power to achieve these, but once done it will be worth it.
Colleen,
Thank you for your comments. “Amen” to your point about time, dedication and will power! These qualities lead to more answers and light the path to further pain relief! I am praying for God to bless your faith and dedication with healthy nerves!
I’ve cut back on some foods, grapes, raisins etc as they have way too much sugar and effect my gut.
I’m gluten, sugar, dairy, grain free now – makes huge difference.
Thanks for sharing Christine! God bless and please know I’m in your balconey of friends cheering and praying for your continued healing.
How about stevia as a sweetener?
I have not used stevia, so I don’t know. Is it artificial more than natural? I use the slightest trace of honey on oatmeal but mostly rely on bananas, blueberries and cinnamon. For coffee, check out Open Nature’s Vanilla Almond Unsweetened milk.
I love dairy Steve and otherwise have a healthy diet (I am an 82 year old and newly diagnosed with PN). Do you think 2 cups of milk 2 tablespoons of butter and a slice of cheese each day is too much dairy?
I eat loads of vegetables but they are carbs. Is that harmful? Also lots of tropical fruits. My nerve issue is idiopathic. Still having tests.
Dairy is fine Aileen unless it has sugar. I replaced my milk habit with unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Try Open Nature brand. Cheese good. They key is not so much carbs as it is “added” sugar, wheat and gluten. Eliminate those and see what happens. Finally, regular supplementation with a pure form of alpha lipoic acid is a daily must along with quality infrared pads for your feet and hands.
🙏 I found your reply helpfull and will investigate Alpha Lipoic-Acid Is that a kind of Omega Three?
Alpha-Lipoic Acid is an amino acid. High doses are approved in Germany for nerve diseases. I have experienced significant reduction of nerve pain as well as healthier looking skin!
Are all fruits and veggies ok?
Hi Jennifer. My experience says “yes.” Put yourself in the place of your nerves and imagine what they like.
Steve did you have Small Fiber Neuropathy?
Good question. I didn’t get a diagnosis from a Neurologist as I knew his only treatment would be drugs.
Meal suggestions please!
Thanks for your comment David! This could be a book! But who has time, especially when you are in pain! So here’s some simple starting points. Focus on anything eggs or oatmeal for breakfast. Gluten free AND sugar free OR really really low in added sugar. Don’t kid yourself! The lower the better! Unrefined Bakery in Dallas offers delicious paleo morning muffins. See if you can find a grocery store or bakery in your city with good gluten free low sugar supplies. Next, eat fresh blueberries, cantaloupe, grapefruit, oranges and bananas as your new sugar. Put thin banana slices on buttered gluten free toast with chopped pecans and sprinkle with cinnamon. Do it with peanut butter. Always keep a tasty low fat cottage cheese on hand. Milk? Check out your grocery’s UNSWEETENED vanilla flavored almond milk. Thirsty? Any of the ZERO SUGAR Sparkling Ice drinks mixed with fresh lime and club soda. Push away any think made of wheat or white flour and enjoy all the meats, fish, veggies, cheese, etc. Always ask if there is a gluten free option. Keep gluten free buns for hamburgers. There’s more but this is a good start!
