Three gems you must grab for wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"391\" height=\"302\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/gems_home-copy.jpg\" alt=\"Money gems for wealth\" class=\"wp-image-900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/gems_home-copy.jpg 391w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/gems_home-copy-300x232.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 391px) 100vw, 391px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Few pause to pick them up and think about what they mean for personal wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/3-great-habits-of-wildly-successful-people\/\">Paul Markey<\/a> taught me these priceless keys to wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was a successful real estate developer in San Antonio, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe one of the most successful in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His crowning achievement was Stone Oak, one of the largest privately planned cities in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-how-money-works\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">How Money Works<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Growing up with his son, Mike, I watched Paul run his business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He never worried about missing a deal because he understood money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">\u201cSteve, there are three kinds of money. &nbsp;Now-now, now, and <\/mark><\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\"><strong>later<\/strong><\/mark><\/span><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">.<\/mark><\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>&#8220;<\/strong><\/span><\/mark><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> &nbsp;Paul Markey<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Now-now<\/strong> is the money you make today and spend today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Now<\/strong> money is money you have available but choose not to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Later<\/strong> is a down-the-road payday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 26, I was happy just to get option 1.  Never mind options 2 and 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quite simply, the goal is to direct more resources into the last two pots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-now-now-money\"><strong>Now-Now Money<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now-now money is almost all folks have.  This is the money people make today and use quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-large wp-image-911\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"686\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/alejandro-escamilla-2-copy-1024x686.jpg\" alt=\"Money budgeting\" class=\"wp-image-911\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/alejandro-escamilla-2-copy-1024x686.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/alejandro-escamilla-2-copy-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/alejandro-escamilla-2-copy-768x515.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Most money made now is used now\/Alejandro Escamilla\/Unsplash<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I see this with people making $1,000,000, $300,000, or $30,000 per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four reasons for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unable to stop at enough<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unable to get over the myth that the world owes them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unable to see the future value of a dollar never spent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unable to stay focused on a core business<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-now-money\"><strong>Now Money<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/51-ZfQDqUNL-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"The Richest Man in Babylon\" class=\"wp-image-915\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/51-ZfQDqUNL-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/51-ZfQDqUNL.jpg 333w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Very few have money now that they don\u2019t need now.&nbsp; Just like very few people have income they won\u2019t spend now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this all gets back to appreciating what money is and how it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow money\u201d can become a growing part of your life, even if you are starting way behind with lots of debt.&nbsp; How?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George Clason, in his 1926 classic, <em>The Richest Man In Babylon<\/em>, describes a debt-ridden camel trader who emerges from financial chaos into financial freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cI found the road to wealth when I decided that a part of all I earned was mine to keep.&#8221; <\/strong>&nbsp;The Richest Man in Babylon<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>So the discouraged camel trader took a lesson from his wealthy friend and restructured his income like this&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>10% savings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>20% debt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>20% taxes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>50% lifestyle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I call it being broke on money that&#8217;s here but not used.  Kind of like an uneaten dessert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cNow I will tell you a strange truth.&nbsp; When I ceased to pay out more than nine tenths of my earnings, I managed to get along just as well.&nbsp; I was not short for money.&nbsp; And it wasn\u2019t long before coins came to me more easily than before.\u201d <\/strong>The Richest Man in Babylon<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>A part of all you earn is yours to save, even while paying off debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-later-money\"><strong>Later Money<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Even more scarce are those who are willing to put away resources that won\u2019t return for years down the road.&nbsp; Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Because of the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/rich-and-secure-with-three-habits\/#more-2367\">craze to hit the big home run<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Because of an obsession that you deserve everything now<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But the road to <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/stock-market-panic-how-to-channel-chaos-into-a-rich-future\/\">wealth<\/a> begins by setting limits on weekly and monthly income so that a percentage always goes to savings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later money asks a deeper question.
