Now-now, now, and later.&#8221; Paul Markey<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Now-now<\/strong> is the money you make today and spend today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Now<\/strong> money is money you have available but choose not to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Later<\/strong> is a down-the-road payday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At 26, I was happy just to get option 1.  Never mind options 2 and 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quite simply, the goal is to direct more resources into the last two pots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-now-now-money\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Now-Now Money<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now-now money is almost all folks have.  This is the money people make today and use quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-large wp-image-911\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"686\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/alejandro-escamilla-2-copy-1024x686.jpg\" alt=\"everyday money spending habits\" class=\"wp-image-911\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/alejandro-escamilla-2-copy-1024x686.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/alejandro-escamilla-2-copy-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/alejandro-escamilla-2-copy-768x515.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Most \u201cnow-now\u201d money gets used almost as quickly as it arrives.\/Alejandro Escamilla\/Unsplash<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I see this with people making $1,000,000, $300,000, or $30,000 per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four reasons for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unable to stop at <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/discover-wealth-found-in-these-shortcuts-to-fortune\/\">enough<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unable to get over the myth that the world owes them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unable to see the future value of a dollar never spent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unable to stay focused on a core business<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-now-money\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Now Money<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"333\" height=\"499\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/51-ZfQDqUNL.jpg\" alt=\"Richest Man Babylon book\" class=\"wp-image-915\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.6673555659934242;width:311px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/51-ZfQDqUNL.jpg 333w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/51-ZfQDqUNL-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 333px) 100vw, 333px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A timeless lesson on wealth.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Very few have money now that they don\u2019t need now.&nbsp; Just like very few people have income they won\u2019t spend now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But this all gets back to appreciating what money is and how it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow money\u201d can become a growing part of your life, even if you are starting way behind with lots of debt.&nbsp; How?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">George Clason, in his 1926 classic\u00a0The Richest Man\u00a0in\u00a0Babylon, describes a debt-ridden camel trader who moves from financial chaos to financial freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI found the road to wealth when I decided that a part of all I earned was mine to keep.&#8221;<br>\u2014 The Richest Man in Babylon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the discouraged camel trader took a lesson from his wealthy friend and restructured his income like this&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>10% savings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>20% debt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>20% taxes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>50% lifestyle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I call it being broke on money that&#8217;s here but not used.  Kind of like an uneaten dessert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow I will tell you a strange truth.\u00a0 When I ceased to pay out more than nine tenths of my earnings, I managed to get along just as well.\u00a0 I was not short for money.\u00a0 And it wasn\u2019t long before coins came to me more easily than before.\u201d<br>\u2014 The Richest Man in Babylon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A part of all you earn is yours to save, even while paying off debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-later-money\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Later Money<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Even more scarce are those who are willing to put away resources that won\u2019t return for years down the road.&nbsp; Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Because of the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/rich-and-secure-with-three-habits\/#more-2367\">craze to hit the big home run<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Because of an obsession that you deserve everything now<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the road to wealth begins by setting limits on weekly and monthly income so that a percentage always goes to savings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later money asks a deeper question.
