Dolphins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What can the beach teach us about happiness?<br>Here are three lessons you can carry into everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-beach-lesson-1-compassion-like-a-dolphin\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Beach Lesson #1: Compassion like a dolphin<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as I step onto our Gulf Shores balcony, dolphins bob above the water followed by a pod of family and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"671\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/compassionate-dolphins-blog-1024x671.jpg\" alt=\"dolphins compassion ocean beach\" class=\"wp-image-8680\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/compassionate-dolphins-blog-1024x671.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/compassionate-dolphins-blog-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/compassionate-dolphins-blog-768x503.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/compassionate-dolphins-blog.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a moment, everyone happy. <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/fishing-guide-shows-off-3-secrets-for-lasting-happiness\/\">Everyone together<\/a>. Everyone talking, schooling, working, and playing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But here&#8217;s something else: Do you know that dolphins sleep with one eye open <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/a-good-father-reveals-three-secrets-for-surviving-disasters\/\">watching for sharks<\/a>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a way, they do it <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/unlock-the-good-life-3-keys-open-this-treasure\/\">for everyone, including us<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>History even shows it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On November 25, 2020, six-year-old Elian Gonzalez drew a picture of dolphins pushing him up during his <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/three-overlooked-success-secrets-from-d-day-enlarge-your-future\/\">rescue from danger in the Gulf<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On August 28, 2007, the Discovery Channel publicized the rescue of Todd Endris by dolphins from a Great White Shark.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe dolphins were going absolutely crazy and really saved my life. I feel like they were jumping over the top of me and swarming around me. They kind of created a wall between me and the shark.\u201d<br>\u2014 Todd Endris, 11\/16\/2007<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If dolphins care, don&#8217;t we?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-beach-lesson-2-take-the-high-road\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Beach Lesson #2: Take the high road<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Better than lounging, I like walking the beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I love swooshing the tide between my toes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, I&#8217;m stable higher up on the sand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just above the wave line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The beach reminds us where the least resistance is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The high road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take it every day and enjoy the peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-beach-lesson-3-there-is-no-perfect-trip\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Beach Lesson #3: There is no perfect trip<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My wife, Judy, was the chief travel writer and photograper for the Dallas Morning News in the eighties and then travel editor and photographer of the Houston Chronicle in the early nineties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where does she want to go now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Beach-Club-Gulf-Shores-April-2026-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Gulf Shores beach morning\" class=\"wp-image-19474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Beach-Club-Gulf-Shores-April-2026-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Beach-Club-Gulf-Shores-April-2026-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Beach-Club-Gulf-Shores-April-2026-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Beach-Club-Gulf-Shores-April-2026-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Beach-Club-Gulf-Shores-April-2026.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Morning calm along the Gulf Shores beach, where sky, water, and sand meet.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The beach. Especially Gulf Shores and Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But when I ask her&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>which beach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>which resort<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;she reminds me there is no perfect trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, there is the simplicity of going and enjoying now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t wait for everything to be perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.&#8221;<br>\u2014 Ecc 11:4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The beach reminds us of what matters.<br>Compassion. Perspective.
