Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?&#8221;<br>\u2014 Mt 6: 26-27<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe they worry less because they live in the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arthur Gordon once asked actor Charles Coburn the key to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 30%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color has-normal-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;The moment,&#8221; he said, &#8220;to act&#8212;or not to act.  The moment to speak&#8212;or to keep silent.  On the stage, as every actor knows, timing is the all-important factor. Stay in the moment.  How?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-awareness\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Awareness<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hummingbirds are smart.  Alert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their brain is 4.2% of body weight, and ours is 2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Studies show they remember every flower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They remember where the nectar is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-movement\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Movement<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How do they find nectar in deserts?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Movement.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They can dive 60 mph and fly at 30 mph&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"612\" height=\"430\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Hummingbird-and-flower-blog.jpg\" alt=\"Finding joy through movement\" class=\"wp-image-8215 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Hummingbird-and-flower-blog.jpg 612w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Hummingbird-and-flower-blog-300x211.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>forward<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>backward<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>upside-down<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Problems are solved when you see them from different angles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-skill\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Skill<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joy won&#8217;t come your way if you sit around&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>stuck on a problem<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>stuck in the past<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We get stuck because we&#8217;re afraid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too afraid to work out problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reminds me of a priest and a layman who went to a boxing match.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the boxers made the sign of the cross before the bell.  The layman asked the priest, &#8220;Will that prayer help him in this fight?&#8221;  The priest said, &#8220;Certainly, if he knows how to box.&#8221;  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hummingbird knows how to find nectar no matter the heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We should too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This morning I drank my coffee by the pool with a hummingbird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was working the trumpet vine in our backyard, darting from flower to flower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The world hadn&#8217;t suddenly become less complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI was still accelerating. Wars were still raging.
