Or is it any time of the year?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a poll of 20,000 Americans last year, nearly half said they lack companionship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Famous people are lonely too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ad Astra, Brad Pitt\u2019s space movie, captures the loneliness creeping over folks today.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-4742\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"299\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Brad-Pitt-in-Ad-Astra-blog.jpg\" alt=\"Loneliness with Brad Pitt\" class=\"wp-image-4742\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Brad-Pitt-in-Ad-Astra-blog.jpg 700w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Brad-Pitt-in-Ad-Astra-blog-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption>Brad Pitt in Ad Astra\/Slash Film<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the relief he sought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Loneliness solution #1:<\/span>&nbsp; Think connection over isolation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ad Astra started production almost a year after Pitt\u2019s wife, Angelina Jolie, filed for divorce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of that emotional pain seems to aid Pitt\u2019s portrayal of Roy McBride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His mission is to launch into space and find his father played by Tommy Lee Jones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Director James Gray and Pitt. . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>\u201c. . . talked early on about this premise of the inability to connect, which was the springboard for the piece (movie).&nbsp; What is connection?\u201d&nbsp; <\/strong>GQ Magazine, 9\/19<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Connection begins with family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why loneliness afflicts so many in middle age because folks are aware of . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>what&#8217;s missing between spouses<\/li><li>what&#8217;s missing between parents and children<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked if he is optimistic about genuine connection, Pitt mused\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>\u201cOh, man, I\u2019ve gone through everything.&nbsp; Like, I cling to religion.&nbsp; I grew up with Christianity.&nbsp; Always questioned it, but it worked at times.&nbsp; And then when I got on my own, I completely left it and I called myself agnostic.&nbsp; And then I found myself coming back around to just belief in&#8212;I hate to use the word spirituality, but just a belief in that we\u2019re all connected.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong> Brad Pitt, GQ Magazine, Sept 2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>But, if we\u2019re all connected, why is there conflict?<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Loneliness solution #2:<\/span>&nbsp; Think forgiveness over friction<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone is born with a big void that can only be filled by love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone wants to be loved.&nbsp; Everyone wants to belong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But love is the opposite of repression.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/how-to-sell-marriage-to-a-skeptic\/\">Love is expression<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the movie (Ad Astra), Pitt&#8217;s character is isolated and suppressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>&#8220;One of the things I found is you could make a film about someone that outwardly you think has it all together but in fact is really battling inner demons.&#8221;<\/strong>&nbsp; James Gray, Director, Ad Astra<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Breakfasts are a great venue for regular connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coffee and breakfast outside is especially joyous.&nbsp; On a beach, even better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of my favorite scenes in the Bible is recorded by John after Jesus&#8217; resurrection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>&#8220;Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore. . .\u201cFriends, haven\u2019t you any fish?\u201d \u201cNo,\u201d they answered. He said, \u201cThrow your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.\u201d When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, \u201cIt is the Lord!\u201d As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, \u201cIt is the Lord,\u201d he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat&#8230;when they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread.&nbsp; Jesus said to them, \u201cCome and have breakfast.\u201d&nbsp; <\/strong>John 21 selected verses<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>These seven men deserted Jesus in his greatest crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, he forgives them and waits on them at a beach cooking their breakfast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who loves you?&nbsp; The One who. . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>waits on you<\/li><li>accepts you<\/li><li>invites you<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>to breakfast like a close friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wonder what Brad Pitt would say if he knew Christianity wasn\u2019t a religion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a wonder of love.&nbsp; A wonder for connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Loneliness solution #3:<\/span>&nbsp; Waste no time on \u201cwins\u201d and \u201closses\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As time passes, we regret keeping score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s just getting. . .older man!&nbsp; How you become more aware of time, and you\u2019ve had more experience, good and bad, with people.&nbsp; And your own wins and losses\u2014the older you get, they don\u2019t seem like so much of a win or so much of a loss.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong> Brad Pitt, GQ Magazine, September 2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>My father wasted no time on losses.&nbsp; He shook em off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s go on,\u201d he\u2019d say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was a futurist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When he was hammered by mother\u2019s bipolar fits, his response was. . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>helpful not hurtful<\/li><li>positive not negative<\/li><li>love not hate<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When Gray and Pitt developed <em>Ad Astra<\/em>, they talked a lot about fatherhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>\u201cYou know, my dad always talked about\u2014it was very important to him that he build a better path for us than we built for him.&nbsp; And he did it.&nbsp; So where we do we go from here as men today?\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp; Brad Pitt, GQ Magazine, September 2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>What did your father pass on?
