{"id":2167,"date":"2020-11-16T16:47:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-16T22:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/?p=2167"},"modified":"2020-11-16T18:34:13","modified_gmt":"2020-11-17T00:34:13","slug":"holidays-can-be-maddening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/holidays-can-be-maddening\/","title":{"rendered":"How Successful People Make the Most of Painful Holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Holidays can be maddening when families bicker and jangle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2221\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/thanksgiving-family-copy.jpg\" alt=\"Holidays for the unforgiving\" width=\"600\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/thanksgiving-family-copy.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/thanksgiving-family-copy-300x232.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Why not transform hurt into healing for a better holiday season?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Do you have family members that are . . .<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>mean?<\/li>\n<li>vindictive?<\/li>\n<li>vicious?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Joseph did.<\/p>\n<p>Eleven brothers left him for dead and then sold him for 20 pieces of silver.<\/p>\n<p>How would you feel the next time you saw family like that?<\/p>\n<p>Joseph\u2019s story is beyond tragic.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I believe it\u2019s in the Bible because God has something to tell us about ugly and unfair people in our lives.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Transform hurt into healing <\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Joseph was the youngest of twelve brothers.<\/li>\n<li>They hated Joseph.<\/li>\n<li>So, they plotted to murder him.<\/li>\n<li>They throw him into a cistern.<\/li>\n<li>They pull him out and sell him to merchants.<\/li>\n<li>The merchants sell him again to an Egyptian official.<\/li>\n<li>He makes Joseph his attendant.<\/li>\n<li>But, his wife falsely accuses Joseph of rape.<\/li>\n<li>So, he&#8217;s thrown into jail!<\/li>\n<li>Joseph becomes head attendant in the jail!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He calls for Joseph to interpret a dream and this happens.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cThen Pharaoh said to Joseph, \u2018Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.&nbsp; You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.\u2019<\/strong>\u201d Genesis 41:39-40<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Always a way to turn things around<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>From vagabond to Pharoah&#8217;s attendant (Gen. 39:1-3)<\/li>\n<li>From prisoner to Pharaoh\u2019s palace (Gen. 41:39-40)<\/li>\n<li>From Pharaoh\u2019s palace to Governor of the land (Gen. 42:6)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Fruitful while suffering<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Think of how successful you can be with . . .<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>attacks<\/li>\n<li>animosity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Just be clear.<\/p>\n<p>By \u201cclear\u201d I mean \u201cforgiving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And often the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steveblaising.com\/philosophy.html#family\">hardest folks to forgive<\/a> are family.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;It&#8217;s the continual suppression of unresolved feelings and emotions that cause the problems we experience in our lives.&#8221;<\/strong>&nbsp; Karol Truman, <em>Feelings Buried Alive Never Die<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Successful folks. . .<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>never stop forgiving even when cruelty prevails.<\/li>\n<li>never stop trusting God for their relationships.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/the-ultimate-cheat-sheet-on-relationships\/#more-1363\">never stop believing the best<\/a> in their family.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Joseph\u2019s advice for a happy family<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>All the surrounding nations were traveling to Egypt because Joseph had brilliantly harvested and stored grain in every Egyptian city during the good times.<\/p>\n<p>His brothers line up with everyone else to buy grain and when they see him, they don&#8217;t recognize him, but he recognizes them!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cThen Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, &#8220;Have everyone leave my presence!&#8221; So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers.&nbsp; And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh&#8217;s household heard about it.&nbsp; Joseph said to his brothers, &#8220;I am Joseph! Is my father still living?&#8221; But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence.&nbsp; Then Joseph said to his brothers, &#8220;Come close to me.&#8221; When they had done so, he said, &#8220;I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt!&nbsp; And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.&nbsp; For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping.&nbsp; But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong> Genesis 45:1-7<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Joseph&#8217;s advice for wholesome relationships?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Forgive as God forgives you.<\/li>\n<li>Heal the same way God heals you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Look for nothing in return.<\/p>\n<p>What makes your holidays work?<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Holidays can be maddening when families bicker and jangle.
