Don’t Look Down. Look Around. A Simple Formula for Joy<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\nThe relentless flood of social media drains optimism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The onslaught of daily feeds in our phones don’t help our optimism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reminds me of the pess-optimist who said, \u201cI believe everything will turn out all right. But it’ll be too late to do anybody any good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
COVID contributed heavily to this attitude, especially in younger generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Everyone was isolated and looking down into computer screens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That’s when Judy rediscovered thousands of Kodachrome slides and hundreds of stories from her years as chief travel writer for The Dallas Morning News and travel editor of the Houston Chronicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over five years, Judy assembled her best photos and selected and updated the stories that now compose Paper Girl’s World<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\nIn a WFAA interview last year, the TV host asked Judy, “What would your older self advise your younger self?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pausing for a second, Judy smiled and said, “Don’t look down. Look around.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those five words are a simple formula for good mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Follow that perspective every day and find yourself walking a rising path of joy and happiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How attention narrows and darkens<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\nSmartphones can become objects of obsession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Phones were once simply tools for communication, until they were made out of glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The large glass faces became something to look at, even covet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But too much scrolling leads to…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n- discontent<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- distraction<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- dislocation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
