No. 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But look at No. 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Costa Rica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s not one of the world&#8217;s richest countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But its people rate their lives higher than people in&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sweden <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Norway<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Netherlands <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Luxembourg <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Switzerland<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are their three treasures for a <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/do-this-twice-a-week-for-a-happier-life\/\">happier life<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-1-the-happiest-people-never-forsake-family\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">1. The happiest people never forsake family<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2025 World Happiness Report notes the strong family bonds in Latin American countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Family isn&#8217;t someone you belong to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They&#8217;re the ones who show up for you in any situation. Think of family like a choir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"778\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/choir-support-blog-scaled-1-1024x778.jpg\" alt=\"happiest countries, stronger connections\" class=\"wp-image-21217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/choir-support-blog-scaled-1-1024x778.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/choir-support-blog-scaled-1-300x228.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/choir-support-blog-scaled-1-768x584.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/choir-support-blog-scaled-1-1536x1168.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/choir-support-blog-scaled-1-2048x1557.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The happiest lives are often built around the people we share them with.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When life gets hard, that support is precious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A choir doesn&#8217;t succeed because everyone sings the same note.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It succeeds because different voices come together in harmony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Families aren&#8217;t so different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never give up on each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-2-the-happiest-eat-together\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">2. The happiest eat together<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Latin American countries like Costa Rica lead the world in meal sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Folks in these countries share about 9 meals with others every week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United States?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We joke about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cOur family has a rule: No politics at the dinner table. We&#8217;ve been eating in silence for years.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cAt our house, dinner is served at six. Arguments begin at six-oh-five.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThanksgiving is the one day we gather with relatives we haven&#8217;t seen all year to remember why we haven&#8217;t seen them all year.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But here&#8217;s something worth thinking about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/worldhappiness.report\/ed\/2025\/sharing-meals-with-others-how-sharing-meals-supports-happiness-and-social-connections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2025 World Happiness Report<\/a> found that people who share more meals tend to be happier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe it&#8217;s not just what&#8217;s on the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s who&#8217;s sitting around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">3. The happiest find joy in worshipping together<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s something that might surprise you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Pew Research Center study found that 36% of Americans who regularly attend religious services describe themselves as &#8220;very happy.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among those who seldom attend or have no religious affiliation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just 25%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s an 11-percentage-point difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it&#8217;s not just an American phenomenon. Researchers found a similar connection between worship attendance and happiness in numerous countries worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps because <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.steveblaising.com\/content\/why-your-secret-hiding-place-holds-the-key-to-wiping-out-anxiety\/\">faith<\/a> is more than something we believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s something we share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At 71, I&#8217;m grateful for the joy shared at the men&#8217;s fellowship at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas.
