There wasn\u2019t an enemy anywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man\u2019s son and daughter spoke in glowing terms with admiration and respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Is it possible to live a long and happy life, leaving no angry people in your orbit?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Angry Teenage Years<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\nThis may be hard if you are currently raising teenagers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ever talk to your son or daughter, and they look at you like you fell off a truck?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the real test comes with the ask.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Is it OK if six of us load up in so and so’s car and drive to Mississippi for a concert? Our plan is to leave school early on Friday, and we’ll be back by Saturday.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
None of the ensuing conversation goes well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But all it takes to resolve anger is for one party to overlook the offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression<\/strong>.”
\u2014 Proverbs 19:11<\/p>\n\n\n\nOverlooking an Offense is not Weakness<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\nIt is emotional strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It takes restraint to stay gentle when provoked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It takes maturity to choose peace over winning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is why Scripture calls it glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not because it feels good in the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But because it builds something that lasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What Forgiveness Looks Like at a Funeral<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\nBack to this funeral, I saw something small but revealing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two men stood awkwardly near the aisle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I remembered they were former business partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once close friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Years of silence between them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One finally stepped forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just a quiet handshake that turned into an embrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nothing magical happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But something heavy left the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is how forgiveness usually works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not loud. Not theatrical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just strong enough to break the chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Practiced Long Before the Funeral<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\nFunerals don\u2019t create forgiveness<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThey reveal whether it was practiced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The deceased man\u2019s children didn\u2019t speak with warmth by accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They grew up watching apology modeled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They learned what it looks like when a parent absorbs irritation instead of passing it along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When someone in the home decides, “This stops with me.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That decision doesn\u2019t just heal a moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It shapes a legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
