What do divorce, mouth sores and jogging have in common?  They\u2019re all bloody horrible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, my youngest daughter, Kate<\/a>, asked me a piercing question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDad, what happened in the divorce?\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

And with that question, my heart broke reminding me of one of the hardest days of my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I assumed these were age-old issues long ago processed and put together neatly in a nice little bottle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cwhat happened\u201d in my case is that after ten years of marriage, her mother, out of the blue, on a nice sunny morning on family vacation announces, \u201cI don\u2019t know if I can stay in this relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat?!  What do you mean by that?!  Where did that come from?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I never expected to hear those words.  No one should ever hear those words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s like someone announcing you have a Glioblastoma.  Maybe you have 6 months to a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I won\u2019t go into the motive behind her announcement.  But, my first thought was the impact for my five and seven year-old daughters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fathers were not made to be absent for any length of time from their daughters or sons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Almost two years later, our divorce was final in 1992.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So where does this leave everyone scarred by divorce?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something or someone has to heal the pain.  Or the pain will metasticize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, as I watched Starving Students <\/em>unload my possessions in 30 minutes from the mini truck, I thought, \u201cWhat would my dad do?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
